Choose A Free Beading Pattern For Your Beading Skill Level
So you would like to get started on creating beadwork pieces you can call your own. No doubt you are excited about being able to come up with works of art that you’ll be proud to show to your friends and family.
Few things in life give people that urge to go out and create something. And so when it comes up, it is only right to cultivate that creativity and sustain it for as long as possible.
So why dwell on this? What has it got to do with beadwork?
While there are a lot of beadwork beginners who seem to have a knack for figuring out the stitches and understanding beading patterns, there are those who seem to find that working with beads and beading patterns is a bit harder than originally expected.
If you’re one of these folk, there is nothing to worry about. Most beading experts started out the same way you have. They have reached their level of expertise because they continued to work on their craft. They probably also knew how to encourage themselves to continue beading by finding beading patterns that they can do with relative ease.
For someone like yourself who is just starting out, that is a good way to go. Very often however, most beadwork newbies just download any free beading pattern, purchase the necessary items and expect miracles the next day.
It is not to dash hopes of being able to make works of art, but as much as the best artists took time to create their masterpieces, so should you.
Admittedly, there are a lot of free beading patterns out in the market particularly on the Internet. Unfortunately, these beading patterns are usually made by experts who seem to have forgotten that there are a lot of beginners out there.
So when searching for free beading patterns on the Internet, try refining your search by adding “beginners” or “introductory” to your search phrase. Chances are, you’ll be able to find free beading patterns that will match your current skill level.
For those just starting out, here is a suggested list of beading patterns you can get for free. At the same time, they are fun to do and the results are very satisfactory, even with a beginner’s skill.
Look for patterns such as animal shapes (butterflies, dolphins, fishes, cats, dogs, etc. whatever you like) or jewelry pieces like bracelets and earrings. Finding free beading patterns for familiar shapes like angels and snowmen are also easy.
The idea is for you to be able to work on the pattern easily so that you won’t get discouraged with beading. As your skill level increases with each project, then you can download more free beading patterns that will be more of a challenge.
Finally, as a parting tip, there are some beading techniques used on most free beadwork patterns that are particularly tricky. So practicing on these stitches will be not only increase you skill level but also allow you to work on more free beading patterns with little difficulty.
Examples of these stitches are the peyote stitch (both flat and tube), the square stitch, brick stitch and spiral beading (especially for jewelry making).
By practicing these basic stitches on these simpler beading patterns you’ve gotten for free, you can work your way up to the more complex and more exciting beading patterns. All it takes is a little patience and the genuine desire to be good at what you’re doing. The results will definitely show in your work – hopefully it is work that you can truly be proud of. And who knows? Eventually, you may be making your own free beading pattern, which you can share with others who started out the way just like you did.
